In the afternoon of July 17, 2025, Xu Qiang, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Library, met with a four-member delegation led by Kim Hong-joon, Director of the Korean Film Archives, in the VIP Room of the Shanghai Library on the Huaihai Road. Deputy Director Xu gave the delegation an introduction of the Shanghai Library’s collection scale and distinctive holdings, facility distribution and planning, and the Shanghai Central Library System. Director Kim provided an overview of the Korean Film Archives’ development and expressed hopes to learn about the Shanghai Library’s positioning and services, reader needs and operational strategies, service statistics and models, digital policies, and possibilites for future collaboration.
Deputy Director Xu elaborated on the classification and services of the library’s digital resources, circulation statistics, book loan methods, and reading services. He also highlighted the library’s ongoing "3i" strategic transformation to evolve into a smart, hybrid institution for the era of expansive reading. Marketing personnel from the Digital Resource Center further presented the development of the library’s proprietary databases, including their adoption by institutions such as the Seoul National University.
The delegation toured key facilities of the library, including the Ancient Books Reading Room, Modern Documents Reading Room, automated robotic retrieval system, and Foreign Periodicals Reading Room. The visit was attended by representatives from the Professional Service Center and Digital Resource Center.
