On August 18, 2026, Mr. Rashed bin Mubarak AI-Khater, Consul General of the State of Qatar in Shanghai, led a delegation of seven to visit the Shanghai Library East. Yang Chunhua, Chairwoman of the Shanghai Library Governing Board received the delegation.
Relevant staff of the Shanghai Library introduced to Consul General Khater and his delegation a variety of cultural and creative products that combine both collection features and practicality. Subsequently, accompanied by Chairwoman Yang, Consul General Khater and his delegation toured several distinctive areas of the library, including the atrium on the first floor, the Reading Plaza on the third floor, and the Treasured Collections Library on the seventh floor.
After the tour, the two sides held a meeting in the VIP reception room. Chairwoman Yang gave Consul General a brief introduction of the library's building design and visitor attendance. Consul General Khater expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and spoke highly of the development achievements of the Shanghai Library. He stated that the Consulate General is willing to further promote cooperation between the Qatar National Library and the Shanghai Library, and that both sides could carry out various activities in the future in areas such as cultural exchange, book exchange, and personnel visits.
Following the meeting, Consul General Khater and his delegation visited the special exhibition "Reading the Renaissance: Western Books and Manuscripts from the 10th to the 17th Century" in Exhibition Hall No. 1.
