Shanghai Library is the largest public library in China and also one of the ten largest libraries in the world in terms of its rich collection and extensive floor space. People from China and abroad are welcome to enjoy the wide range of services at Shanghai Library. In 1847, shortly after Shanghai opened its door to the world as a port city, the Library of the Xu Jiahui Jesuit mission was founded. With a collection of 200,000 volumes in both Chinese and Western languages.
