A Visit from the Consulate General of Japan in Shanghai
A three-member group led by Isomata Akio, the newly appointed Japanese Consulate General in Shanghai, visited Shanghai Library on March 14, 2019.
Chen Chao, director of Shanghai Library, gave a brief introduction of the library’s development and the construction of its east branch in Pudong. They together visited the library’s big data screen, reading room, genealogy room, ancient book recovery room, innovation space, new technology demo room and room of foreign-language books.
The Consul General spoke highly of Shanghai Library’s rich collection of books and its smart services offered to local citizens, and also shown great interest in the new concepts presented by the library’s each branch. He told Chen that Shanghai is an open and inclusive city, and leaves a special impression among the young people in Japan. He expected to help bring about several cooperation projects between Shanghai Library and Japan’s cultural circle.
Chen said he was willing to contribute to the communication and exchange between China and Japan, and hoped more city libraries in Japan could be a partner with Shanghai Library.
