Focus on Disruptive Technology, Help Shanghai Build a Globally Influential Science and Technology Innovation Center --Shanghai Competitive Intelligence Forum 2017(SCIF) Successfully Held
On October 19-20, 2017, Shanghai Competitive Intelligence Forum 2017(SCIF) themed “The Impact of Disruptive Technology” was held in Shanghai Library. Over 20 domestic and international experts on competitive intelligence practice, business decision-makers and technology researchers from well-known institutions and enterprises including American Association of strategic and competitive intelligence practitioners (SCIP), Japan Society of competitive intelligence, Institute of Automation of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fudan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University were invited to make speech. A total of more than 300 professionals attended the Forum.
It is the fifth session of SCIF since its inception in 2003. Intelligence experts from various countries and regions like the United States, France, Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom, India, Argentina and etc. are invited at each forum for the Chinese intelligence community over the years to discuss topics related to cutting-edge science and technology, emerging industries, innovation and entrepreneurship and other diversified hot spots.
The forum involved practitioners from links of each industry chain, interdisciplinary scholars and entrepreneurs into the discussion on disruptive technology and competitive intelligence in the form of keynote presentations, three thematic forums and a thematic discussion. Nan Bulger, CEO of SCIP, Igami Masatsura, director of base disk survey room in Institute of Academic Policy under the Ministry of Science and Technology in Japan, WANG, Feiyue, director of state key laboratory of complex system management and control in Institute of Automation under Chinese Academy of Sciences and Craig Fleischer, author of “Strategic and Competitive Analysis” delivered keynote speech on the role of competitive intelligence in disruptive innovation, parallel intelligence, scientific map and the future of science and technology revolution respectively. In the meantime, SCIF has become the platform for many well-known enterprises to release their new annual research report. For examples, Clarivate Analytics released the Chinese version of “Global Innovation Report 2017”; Shanghai Institute for Science and Technology Information released the “2017 Evaluation of Scientific and Technological Innovation Capability of International Metropolises”; Gartner publicized the Chinese version of Top 10 Strategic Technology Trends for the time.
The two-day forum not only gave attendees the opportunity to explore the opportunities and challenges that Shanghai faces in building a global technological innovation center from the perspective of intelligence, but also allowed the intelligence community and industry to share with each other how to use information to facilitate discovery of technology, incubation and growth of technology, and the impact of technology on society and industry.
A lot of activities were also held during the forum. Clarivate Analytics, famous science and technology literature database manufacturer, signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Shanghai Library (Institute of Science and Technology Information of Shanghai) on the continuous release of “Evaluation of Scientific and Technological Innovation Capability of International Metropolises” and intended to establish Center for Evaluation of Scientific and Technological Innovation Capability of International Metropolises. Shanghai Society for Science and Technology Information and Japan Society of Competitive Intelligence signed a strategic cooperation agreement on holding  research meetings together and exchanging publications and research materials. Shanghai Library (Institute of Science and Technology Information of Shanghai), Shanghai Industry Intelligence Development Alliance and Shanghai Society for Science and Technology Information jointly held a campaign themed “Shanghai Science and Technology Information Service Week 2017” and illustrated cutting-edge technologies of virtual reality with pictures and texts, and set up an experience and display center for cutting-edge technology products of virtual reality.
