A cross-region photographic show – planned to tour Shanghai, Heilongjiang, Zhejiang and Jiangsu – was kicked off its weeklong first stop exhibition on April 11 at Shanghai Library. Titled “Affection to Xinjiang”, it features 120 photos of the grand and breathtaking view of this remote western province, all taken by Ms. LI Hua, a veteran photographer who had spent many of her early years working and living in the province several decades ago.

LI Hua was working at Karamay in the 1970s and developed special passion for that land. She had been going back as a photographer many times to the Gobi desert, mountains, rivers and prairies of the province, like an émigré returning to the homeland. In 2008 her photographic work “Affection to Xinjiang” received prize awarded by the Pingyao International Photography Festival. In the same year a pictorial album under the same title was published by China Photography Publishing House.

Mr. LI is also accomplished in literature. Her long photographic novel “The Story of Maorenhe River” was serialized on the “Wen Yi Weekly” sponsored by China Writers’ Association in 2001, which was adapted into a multimedia programme by the State Television Station (CCTV).
