About the Lecture
Franz Joseph Haydn, known as the founding father of the ‘Viennese Classical Music’, was born on April 1st, 1732 in Rohrau of south Austria, a village near the border with Hungary. When he died on May 1st, 1809, he had become one of the most prolific and prominent composers of the Classical period and even in the world music history.
Joseph Hayden is often called the "Father of the String Quartet" because of his important contributions to these forms. He was also instrumental in the development of the piano trio and in the evolution of sonata form.
He was also a close friend of, and even looked upon as ‘father’ by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; he was also a teacher of Ludwig van Beethoven, whom Haydn was the least satisfied with. He excelled in almost every music genre, yet his marriage was incredibly next to a dead frustration.
